Listed for your reference is pertinent information concerning the Missions and Outreach projects of Blair Road United Methodist Church. Included are the names of the project, the contact person(s), how to reach them, the purpose of the project, updates and how you can serve.   
 
Appalachian Service Project – Annual - Steve & Carol Cole 704-545-2814 scole1@carolina.rr.com  Adult team to participate with more information in the future.  Needed: Prayers and support of fund raisers during the year, financial sponsors.
 

Book Bags of Love – Ongoing - Barry Smith - 704-545-3682 bsmith@autouplink-carolinas.com for more information, visit www.bookbagsoflove.org or email bookbagsoflove@gmail.com.  Ongoing - Collect food for 30 children and their families from Lebanon Road Elementary School to provide weekend meals.  Barry Smith is overseeing this program, has developed a website and he is working with corporate sponsors. BBOL is also working with other churches in the area to train them on this worthwhile and successful outreach for support of children and their families in surrounding communities. 

Needed: Weekly donations of the following items:

  • 6pk. Of Applesauce (Plastic)
  • 20-25oz. Peanut Butter (Plastic jar)
  • 20-25oz. Jelly (Plastic jar)

  • Easy Mac-n-Cheese (Family Size)
  • Easy Mac-n-Cheese (Individual)
  • Snack Crackers (Cheezits,Goldfish ect)
  • 10-12oz. Can Tuna
  • 15oz. Can Corn
  • 12-16oz. Can Chili
  • 4oz. Fruit cups (Plastic)
  • Crystal Light
  • Pop Tarts
  • Box of Cereal
  • Granola Bars or Snack Bars
  • Breakfast Bars
  • Ramon Noodles

  • Spaghetti sauce (Plastic Jar)

    Kairos Prison Ministry – Semi-Annual - Dave Ramsey 704-882-2758
    To bring Christ's love, grace and forgiveness to the incarcerated.  Dozens and dozens of cookies are needed for this ministry.  The 2010 Fall Kairos will be announced soon..   Needed: Prayers for the participants and the team!Volunteers to serve in prison ministry. Dozens and dozens of cookies!
     
    Loaves & Fishes/World Hunger - Ongoing – Rev. Johnny Lord – 704-545-6785, ext. 103 johnnylord@blairroadumc.org
    A monthly offering is taken and equally divided between the Charlotte offices of Loaves and Fishes and World Hunger Offices of the United Methodist Church. Needed:  Monetary donations the 2nd Sunday of each month and canned food when requested.
     
    Operation Christmas Child – Annual - John & Debby Baird 704-516-4599 jddlab@bellsouth.net
    Provide a gift of joy and a message of God's love to children around the world though shoe boxes filled with supplies and gifts during the Christmas Season.   Oct.-Nov. 2010 – Provide gift shoe boxes for children around the world.  Needed:  Filled shoe boxes.
     
    Room in the Inn – Annual Winter months –Al & Gail Beisiegel – 704-882-1237gbeisiegel@yahoo.com  Ended March 25, 2010 for this season. Each Thursday, December – March BR has served 12 homeless individuals with housing, hospitality, dinner and breakfast and a bag lunch to-go. A very special “Thank You” to Al & Gail Beisiegel, Tracy Fisher, and Shirley Wolfe for their outstanding coordination and support. Also thanks to the many weekly volunteers. 
     
    Substance Abuse Ministry - Ongoing – Sherri Ladislas (704-545-4711) sherri.ladislas@wachovia.com  To provide a Christian based program of love, respectfulness, confidentiality, and non-judgmental support for members, families, and others. This ministry offers understanding, education, and hope in dealing with substance abuse. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of each month in the Christian Education Building at 7PM and are confidential.  To provide a Christian based program of love, respectfulness, confidentiality, and non-judgmental support for members, families, and others. This ministry offers understanding, education, and hope in dealing with substance abuse. Meetings held on the 3rd Thursday of each month in the Christian Education Building (CEB) at 7 pm and are confidential.  Download our brochure.  Needed: Prayers and support.
     
    United Methodist Men (UMM)– Ongoing - Albert McMicken 704-545-8846 albertmcmicken@carolina.rr.com  To assist all men to know Jesus Christ, serve Him, grow spiritually and to seek daily to do His will.  The Methodist Men also support the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Programs at Blair Road as well as many ministries and projects within the church.  Needed:  All men of the church are welcome to join and assist with Methodist Men Ministry and local and global projects.

    Our purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and expand concepts of mission projects through participation in the local and global ministries of the church.  All women of the church are welcome to join and assist with local and global Methodist Women Ministry and Mission Projects.

    Community Blood Center of Carolinas – Semi-Annual - Beth Baine 704-577-5796 beth_baine@bellsouth.net  Needed: Blood donors and volunteers to assist with blood drive.

    Crop Walk – Annual - Lorie Cillie 704-957-4238 lorelihp@aol.com Sponsored by Church World Service. 
    BRUMC members will seek pledges and then walk to raise awareness and funds to fight hunger in the Charlotte community and around the world, sponsored by Church World Service.  Needed:  Walkers and pledges, someone to organize lunch for walkers on Walk Day.
     
    Financial Peace University – Ongoing -Kim Heimbach 704-604-3485 kheimbach@carolina.rr.com   
    Ongoing – A life-changing 13 week program that teaches BR members and non-members to achieve financial goals by eliminating debt, saving for the future and giving like never before. 
     
    Gift of Sight – Ongoing -Sharon Beal 704-545-3301 sbeal001@carolina.rr.com  Ongoing - Collect and deliver used glasses (regular/sunglasses, prescription/non-prescription) to local Lions club. There are collection boxes in the FLC and CEB.  Needed: Donations of used glasses and lenses (regular/sunglasses, prescription/nonprescription).
     
    Haiti Relief Project/Missionary Outreach
    Al &Gail Beisiegel made a presentation to the BR family about their experience on April 18, during the SS hour. They continue to work with the children and renovations.  Blair Road donated and assembled 347 Health/Hygiene Kits for Haiti disaster relief through UMCOR and raised and donated $2400 for UMCOR and $1730 for “Hearts with Haiti.”
