Preschool

Welcome to Blair Road UMC Preschool

Blair Road United Methodist Church Preschool is an outreach ministry of Blair Road United Methodist Church. The children in our Preschool will benefit from a structured curriculum in a loving Christian atmosphere under the guidance of teachers who strive to design daily activities which encourage the social, mental, spiritual and physical development of each child at their own rate. While we are affiliated with Blair Road United Methodist Church, we maintain a separate identity as a Christian Preschool. We do not attempt to teach theology, but we do teach and live out God’s love.

A child’s Preschool years are their most important years of learning. During these first five years of life, a child goes through enormous changes and develops the basis of who they will become. After these Preschool years this basic child is refined and polished by additional knowledge and skills. A child who experiences happy and successful years in a quality Preschool program will be well prepared to succeed in more formal education.

Mission Statement

The Preschool program is a self-supporting ministry to children, parents, and the community:

to children, loving relationships at church communicate God’s love in terms preschoolers can understand. Blair Road Preschool
strives to provide a quality program where teachers plan activities that meet the physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of children;

to parents, preschool is a supportive ministry to families. It provides the primary caregiver time for shopping, doctor, appointments, part-time jobs, volunteer work, involvement in the church, and self-nurturing; and

to community, the preschool program provides a means of outreach and opportunities to invite families to regular church services, as well as to special events.

Daily Schedule

Daily hours are 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Monday through Friday
Optional extended care for Lunch Bunch is available every Monday through Thursday from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.

Our teachers cannot be responsible for your child before 9:30am. Teachers use this time for daily class preparation. We begin getting the children out of the cars at 9:30am. If you prefer to walk your child in to his/her class, please wait until 9:30am. Additionally, it is important that you get your child to class by 9:40am so that s/he doesn’t disrupt the class or miss valuable class experiences and activities. Teachers cannot wait for late arrivals to begin the day’s activities, or repeat activities your child may have missed.

It is equally important that you pick your child up on time, at 12:30pm, or 1:30pm if they’ve stayed for lunch. Children become frightened and fear abandonment if you are late. Please try to notify the office as soon as possible if you experience an unavoidable delay. If lateness becomes a consistent pattern, you may be asked to take your child back home after the third morning occurrence, or be charged a late fee after the third afternoon occurrence of $15 per 15 minutes or portion thereof.

Registration Information

Registration is normally held in late January/early February. Current families are registered first, second incoming siblings and church members, and we then open our registration to the community at large.

Download a 2010-2011 Registration Information Flyer

An annual registration fee must be received to ensure your child’s space in the program. This fee is non-refundable after July 1 and cannot be pro-rated.

Curriculum

We utilize The Creative Curriculum in conjunction with a progressive, structured curriculum with the overall goal of preparing students for a successful year in Kindergarten. In addition to preparing children academically we also ensure students have a firm foundation in the Christian faith with biblical and spiritual emphasis.

Summer Programs

Blair Road UMC Preschool typically offers two summer sessions running for 3 weeks each for 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). These sessions are normally held in June and July. Please check out our website around March for current year dates and fees.

Summer session is open for children age 2–3rd grade and we staff according to registration; therefore summer registration is closed by May 1st in order to employ appropriate staff and to order adequate supplies for the sessions. We provide a less structured theme based curriculum with a strong emphasis on literacy.
