Blessing of the Backpacks & The Beginning of a Journey of Connection

Blair Road United Methodist Church invites teachers, bus drivers, students, and families from across our community to join us for a special Blessing of the Backpacks on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Whether you are carrying a backpack to preschool, elementary school, middle school, high school, or college—or carrying the responsibility of driving a bus or teaching and caring for our children—we want to bless you as you begin a new school year.
This year, our Blessing of the Backpacks carries a special message: We are CONNECTED.
Connected to Christ.
Connected to our families.
Connected to our church.
Connected to our community.
As part of the celebration, each person will receive a special Connected charm to carry with them throughout the year—a small reminder that wherever the school year takes us, we do not walk alone. We are connected to one another, and most importantly, we are connected through God's love.
Please bring your backpack, school bag, work bag, or simply yourself. There is a place for everyone.
Join us at either service:
8:45 AM — Traditional Worship
11:11 AM — Contemporary Worship
Teachers. Bus drivers. Preschoolers. Students. College students. Parents. Grandparents. Everyone.
Come be blessed. Come be reminded that you are connected. And come help us begin a new school year surrounded by God's love and the love of our community.
